Music is my lifelong hobby

As a son of a virtuoso accordionist (my father,) and a mechanical engineer ever dreaming to become a pianist (my mother,) it was impossible to be remote of music.

While in Odessa, we had a piano at home; so from being a child, I knew how to use it, all the DO AND DON'T, and how to locate a note according to it's "height." The same way, I never missed any TV program with music, and my dad allowed me to use our tape recorder often.  Yet it was a very expensive item, that time and that place. 

During first years of my schooling I attended music school, in addition to elementary. Theory I enjoyed the most, while practice required tremendous time, which I did not have. That time, Soviet School (Please, ... I do not apply any political meaning!!!!) taught a lot, and required a lot of time and resources. To fail a test it was a fatal error, that's why I decided to suspend for a long while all the creative process of music learning. And since theory and practice ran as one process, I left this pleasure for a while. But still my love to music rules.

My second attempt to attend music school, was little bit longer then first, but when I found such an alternative for a spare time as Radio and Electronics club, I decided to occupy repairman position in that world. 

Coming to America my dad bought two electronic keyboards, which I used in free of work time; why I had so many time it is another very long story. After a brief lesson, given by him, I knew how to pick out my favorite tunes by 2 hands already. Before I did it merely by one. The same fashion, my dad taught me, to play accordion.

Once upon a time, on a simple workday I amazed my mom and dad, by becoming a composer! Wow I can write music, "after two grades and one corridor" (Russian Proverb) I was very glad on getting one more direction to live for.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT, I practiced a lot to play, my computer had programs, and I have a logical reasoning. I've finished high school, college, and music composition was allways a background process for me. Having deals with note programs, I learned theory, how to make chords, how notes are consonant, dissonant, etc. So now using just an ad-hoc approach, I can write unbelievable tunes; however I use Cakewalk features.
You will laugh (maybe not) sometime I treat UNIX, as a musical instrument for all that office stuff. It is probably because I've read Graham glass book a lot.

What can inspire me to write a beautiful song? Getting to a beautiful city, or landscape. Meeting interesting people. Learning new material,. And of course, when I see a beautiful piece of Poetry.

Music is a language of expressions, actually THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE. The language, which has constructs for all the ups and downs of life, to make everything as it should be. It is impossible to offend someone in terms of music (unless by loudness.) If someone says "it is possible ..... " then, I have deep sympathy for someone's infected mind. But anyway, it will never diminish my interest to this field of research.

As of now, the funniest thing is that I can play most of melodies as I hear them. they can be a melodies which I hear, which I compose. I can play them both in auto-arranger mode and "as on a piano" in multiple voices. But the most ridiculous thing about my so-called musical education is that when someone asks me to put music on scores, or to play or sing something from scores - I cannot merely do anything. ... But when I hear this melody I can replay it in some cases. .... Its a fact that I am so not score-friendly. However being a music theory student in Ukraine in addition to individual keywords-playing lessons I had a class named "sight singing" where we were mostly taught how about the theoretical part of music. A lot of time were spent to score writing process, in which I had an A grade, opposite to individual keywords-playing lessons. As a name of a class inters - I have to be able to "sight sing" at least one melody, but sorry I cannot.  ..... I guess that as always, I paid special attention to the textbook workbook, and thier structures. I remember each pices BY NUMBER just like trams and trolleybuses in the city. Lets say, if on a final exam, a teacher comes and says "Greg, come in front of the class and sight-sing exercise number 29" I could do it, only because I remember how it sounds even now! ....

As of today, I'd not be shy to say, let me put it in a personal digital assistant... and then I will repeat after it. However this joke will not lead to an A grade in an Academic Setting.

Anyway, I've heard that I am not only such. There are definitely some musicians which can find the process of score writing hateful, more .... some people can play guitar without knowing the notion of music notation, just looking on a string placement. If I decide to study stringed instruments I'd be such too. ... Anyway this feature of my musical perception does not disturb me to compose music. With a help of MIDI-keyboards I can record everything which comes in my mind and I can play. Their job is namely to transfer the sounds musician makes to the music score, which is another reason to bless computer, and actually people who make them and program them for eliminating chores from our everyday life.
